Plans for the New Regional Medical Center Move Forward

In January 2023, UM Shore Regional Health will submit a Certificate of Need (CON) to the Maryland Health Care Commission for the building of a new regional medical center in Talbot County to replace the UM Shore Medical Center on Washington Street.

Thanks to its planned location off Longwoods Drive near the intersection of U.S. Route 50, the new hospital site will provide better access and visibility, as well as a helipad and ample parking for patients, staff and visitors. Our goal at present is to open the new regional medical center in 2028.

The new facility’s current design includes over 325,000 total square feet with an adjacent, 60,000-square foot medical office and outpatient services building. Based on data-driven analysis of the health care needs of our five-county region, plans include ample inpatient and observation beds, operating rooms and Emergency Department treatment rooms and other key services such as laboratory, imaging and pharmacy, to name just a few.

More details will be forthcoming as this exciting and long-awaited project moves forward.
